IOEC was established in September 1972 to supply building materials to the Indian Ocean Islands. Over the last 4 decades much has changed in the South African socio economic landscape and their business has grown accordingly, to include FMCGs, perishables, and other commodities marketed in over 45 countries around the world. IOECs South African head office is situated in the East Coast City of Durban, selected as the major export hub of our range of products in the region. Established by the Clarke family, half of the company was sold in the early years during a period of rapid expansion. The shares were subsequently repurchased by the Clarke family who have maintained 100 percent ownership for the last 25 years. IOEC has owned and operated international satellite offices, cold stores, wholesale and retail outlets, Coca Cola bottling plants, a biscuit factory and various distribution companies.
